Also, for over a century, Western Ghana has spearheaded Ghana’s position as a leading Gold producer in Africa. At one stage in its industrial history the region had the largest conglomerate of gold mines in the world. Today many mining companies and contractors still operate in the region.

Some of the leading global companies currently operating in the region include Tullow Oil, Cirrus Oil, AngloGold Ashanti, Golden Star Resources, Goldfields, SIFCA (Ghana Rubber Estates Limited), and numerous SMEs and contractors that depend on the large companies. Large agricultural plantations and State farms are also located in the region.
